Corporate Snapshot
Antares Pharma, Inc. is a specialty drug delivery/pharmaceutical company that is focused on low risk generic or "supergeneric" opportunities. Its technology is applied to established products with the intent of providing additional customer benefit beyond current brand leader or alternative generic products. Antares is developing three primary technology platforms: (1) transdermal gels, (2) fast-melt tablets, and (3) injection devices. Products currently on the market include Antares' reusable Medi-Jector (MJ) VISION®, a small, easy-to-use needle-free injector, marketed in over 20 countries worldwide to deliver insulin, and available in Europe and Asia to administer human growth hormone (hGH). Incorporating Medi-Jector technology, Ferring Pharmaceuticals BV markets ZomaJet® 2 Vision for hGH delivery in Europe; and JCR Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd's Twin-Jector® EZ II, is marketed for hGH delivery in Japan. Antares has also licensed its ibuprofen gel, now available in 11 countries. A disposable mini-needle injection system (Vibex™), which can be licensed for use with self-injected drugs, is being developed for use in home health, acute care settings, and for intermittent use with generic drugs. This technology could also be extended to include vaccines, a market segment increasingly driven by device technology. The next generations of reusable needle-free injectors, VISION® and Valeo™, are in development, with Valeo™ licensed to Eli Lilly and Company (LLY-NYSE) for diabetes and obesity products. Antares' Advanced Transdermal Delivery (ATD™) gel technology, which is being developed for hormone therapy (HT) products, is currently in Phase II and Phase III trials in the U.S. with licensees, and is being evaluated for non-hormonal products as well. The Easy Tec™ fast-melt oral tablet technology has been designed for patients such as the elderly, who have difficulty swallowing oral medications, providing the same effectiveness as conventional oral dosage forms. Easy Tec™ will target this growing demographic segment in a $1.5 billion market. The Company has relationships with such corporate partners as Eli Lilly and Company; BioSante Pharmaceuticals (BPA-NYSE); Ferring Pharmaceuticals BV; JCR Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd.; SciGen Ltd.; and Solvay Pharmaceuticals, among others.
