Isonics Corporation

Corporate Snapshot

Isonics Corporation is a specialty chemical and advanced materials company that develops, commercializes, and markets materials that have been engineered atom-by-atom to enhance performance. These ultra-pure materials have commercial applications in a number of areas, including semiconductor devices, medical diagnostics, imaging and therapy, and drug development. Isonics is divided into two divisions: (1) Isonics Life Sciences and (2) Isonics Semiconductor. The Life Sciences division markets and sells both stable and radioisotopes for life science and medical diagnostic applications, including the identification, staging, and treatment of cancer, biological research, drug development, and medical imaging. The Semiconductor division manufactures advanced Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) wafers for integrated-circuit-component and micro-electromechanical-system (MEMS) manufacturers. SOI technology enables circuit designers to improve device speed by approximately 30% and improve energy savings by more than 30%. This segment is also involved in several research and development (R&D) projects including silicon-28, an ultra-pure form of silicon with enhanced thermal benefits for semiconductor materials. Additionally, Isonics recently entered the homeland security industry by acquiring certain neutron-based detection technologies for potential use in detecting explosives and chemical and biological weapons. Isonics has historically had operating losses and working capital shortages, but completed a private placement in January 2004, which has provided working capital sufficient to carry the Company through July 2004.
