Corporate Snapshot
NovaBiotics Ltd ("NovaBiotics" or "the Company") is a closely held clinical-stage biotechnology company that designs and develops novel antifungal and antibacterial products to treat infectious diseases and conditions for which there are presently no fully effective therapies. Founded in 2004, NovaBiotics delivered its first clinical product, Novexatin® (NP213), in less than five years through the use of informed drug design. Novexatin® is a topical, brush-on treatment that has been shown in preclinical and clinical testing to clear a fungal nail infection (onychomycosis) after 28 daily applications versus current treatment options, which may require 12 to 42 weeks of therapy. NovaBiotics has demonstrated the candidate's safety and tolerability and reported promising evidence of efficacy in Phase I/IIa clinical studies of Novexatin®. The Company is preparing to file an Investigational New Drug (IND) application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct a Phase IIb study with Novexatin®. The Company's second drug candidate, Novamycin® (NP339), is a fast-acting antifungal peptide to treat potentially life-threatening systemic yeast and mold infections. Novamycin® could enter clinical development in 2011. Novamycin® was shown in preclinical evaluation to be rapidly fungicidal, killing yeast within 30 minutes of exposure, and has demonstrated efficacy in in vivo models of candidemia. NovaBiotics' pipeline also entails antimicrobial peptides and compounds for respiratory, systemic, and dermal infections, as well as anti-infective peptides and several botanically derived anti-infective compounds that could be incorporated into consumer healthcare and cosmetic products and that are available for licensing. NovaBiotics is headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland (UK).
